Areas of Research

Area 1: Knowledge and Information for Innovation
Comprises studies in management, organization, mediation, visibility and access to information and knowledge, considering them as strategic elements for innovation. The concept of innovation is considered in a broad scope, not only for development of products and services, but also reaching for new social configurations. Research related to the processes of knowledge management, technological prospection and competitive intelligence represent the direct relation between Information Science studies and innovation. On the other hand, research related to social organization of information, communicative mediation and open access promotion are able to analyze the social, cultural and behavioural implications intertwined with innovation, understanding it as a process of knowledge production.

Area 2: Technology, Information and Representation
In the context of the growing influence of technological devices in contemporary society, the processes of documentary representation emerge as the fundamental link to guarantee information retrieval. In this sense, theoretical and practical research are emphasized, based on the development, the methods, the tools and the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) that involve the generation, storage, representation, organization, sharing, dissemination, use, reuse, safety and preservation of information in digital environments. The studies reflect the theoretical and epistemological dimensions that underpin the strategic use of ICT in the Information Science field and investigate the relations between the theoretical corpus and professional praxis to optimize innovation.
