Research Areas

Research Line 1: Knowledge and Information for Innovation

It comprises studies on the management, organization, mediation, visibility, and access to information and knowledge, considering them as strategic elements for innovation. The concept of innovation is understood broadly, not exclusive to the development of products and services, and may also refer to new social configurations and arrangements. Research related to knowledge management processes, technological prospecting, and competitive intelligence represents the direct relationship between Information Science studies focused on innovation. Furthermore, studies related to the social organization of information, communicative mediation, and the promotion of open access analyze the social, cultural, and behavioral implications involved in innovation, understanding it as a process of knowledge production.

Research Line 2: Technology, Information, and Representation

Given the growing influence of technological apparatuses in contemporary society, documentary representation processes are established as a fundamental link to guarantee information retrieval. In this sense, theoretical-practical research stands out, based on the development, methods, instruments, and use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) involving the generation, storage, representation, organization, sharing, dissemination, use, reuse, security, and preservation of information in digital informational environments. The studies reflect the theoretical and epistemological dimension that underlies the strategic use of ICT in the field of Information Science and investigate the relationships between the theoretical corpus and professional praxis to optimize innovation.
